Schultz began her business career began in 1988 when she and her mother designed, built and operated Garrett Creek Ranch Conference Center in Paradise, Texas. The retreat center operated until 2013 when it was sold to Camp Summit, a camp for special needs children and adults. In 2009 Jaynie created Retreat Central, an online directory and marketing firm for camp retreat centers. Retreat Central was sold in 2018.
Her service career began in 1988 when she joined the grants committee of the Dallas Women’s Foundation and later joined the Board of Trustees. Locally she also served on the Board of Directors of the Women’s Museum and in 2014 was appointed to the Dallas City Plan Commission (District 11) which she continues to serve. She chairs the Urban Design Committee and sits on the Welcoming Communities Committee for the City of Dallas. She also serves on the founding board of CityLab High School (a public school for architecture, urban planning and community organizations), the Texas-Israel Chamber of Commerce and the Muslim Jewish Advisory Council of the American Jewish Committee.
Nationally Jaynie serves the global Jewish community through the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, serving as Vice Chair of the Latin American Committee as well as the American Associates of Ben Gurion University. She was a founding Board member of Moishe House, the largest global Jewish young adult organization. She sat on the boards of the Jewish Funder’s Network, Foundation for Jewish Camp, the iCenter, and JESNA. She was a participant in JDC’s Project Interface and the American Associates of Ben Gurion University Zin Fellows. Locally, she served on the Board of Yavneh Academy High School and was a past President of Akiba Academy.
Jaynie is an innovator and entrepreneur in both business and philanthropy. The Schultz Family Foundation has led to the creation of many new programs while strengthening existing. Their prime motivators are:
- To bring people in the Jewish “tent” in a safe and welcoming way
- To try new ideas in partnership with existing institutions
- To build board leadership through an explicit investment in board culture
- To help others use a Jewish lens to better serve the community
Jaynie and her husband, Ron Romaner, have four children, Ben, Dalya, Adina, and Micah, and serve as the American home family to Dejene and Mesfin Hodes, son the the CNN hero nominee, Dr. Rick Hodes of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Jaynie has a B.A. in Government from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.A. in Urban Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. She graduated from Skyline High School in 1978.
